Department of Banking and Finance

The Department of Banking and Finance regulates and examines banks, credit unions, and trust companies chartered by the state. DBF also maintains regulatory and licensing authority over mortgage brokers, lenders, processors and originators; money service businesses (MSBs) such as money transmitters, sale of check companies, and check cashers; and international banking organizations and bank holding companies conducting business in Georgia.

Does DBF regulate my financial institution?

It may, although DBF does not regulate all financial institutions operating in Georgia. Some institutions may be federally regulated or may be overseen by other states entirely. Search for a bank to see if DBF acts as its regulator. Search for a credit union to see if DBF acts as its regulator.
