Earlier this week, Tropical Storm Beryl passed through the state, pouring rains on Memorial Day weekend picnics and beach outings. Running from June 1 to November 30, hurricane season has officially arrived.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is forecasting a moderate season, with four to eight hurricanes this year. One to three of these may develop into major storms. With winds travelling faster than 100 miles per hour, these major storms can uproot trees, level houses and flood entire communities.
