Shrimp harvesting season has officially begun as of 6 a.m., May 30, 2012, according to the Department of Natural Resources, Coastal Resources Division. This applies to both companies and individual fishermen.
This year’s harvest should be quite abundant. The number of white shrimp in the most recent coast-wide trawl survey compares favorably to traditional annual averages for May. The shrimp should also be large enough to please both commercial and individual fishermen.
