Flags Fly Half-Staff on Patriot Day

September 11, 2012
An American flag flies at half-staff.

Eleven years ago today, the nation suffered a shock that for a time quelled partisan politics, led to the country's involvement in two Middle Eastern wars and inspired a national mourning so profound that it rivaled that citizens felt after the 1941 bombing of Pearl Harbor.

In memory of those who died during the September 11, 2001 attacks, residents around the state this morning observed a moment of silence, and flags at state buildings will fly at half-staff throughout the day.

If you'd like to remember the day, study the timeline of events and other details of the attacks, watch memorial photo essays and videos and read the 9/11 Commission Report.
