Checkoff Georgia Partnership Simplifies Charitable Giving
Like millions of other Georgians, you'll probably pay state income taxes using Form 500 this year. Whether you file this form electronically or by pen and paper, you'll come across Checkoff Georgia.
A coalition of charitable organizations, Checkoff Georgia has raised millions for worthy Georgia causes since 1989. This year, each of the participating organizations fills a critical need for the state from medical research to environmental conservation. By simply checking a box and filling in a donation amount on your tax form, you can make quick and easy contributions to these organizations.
In 2013, the eight participating groups include:
- Georgia Wildlife Conservation Fund
- Georgia Fund for Children and Elderly
- Georgia Cancer Research Fund
- Georgia Land Conservation Program
- Georgia National Guard Foundation
- Dog and Cat Sterilization Fund
- Save the Cure Fund
- Georgia Student Finance Authority Fund
To make a tax-deductible donation to any (or all) of these groups, simply “Pick an Amount” in the box next to an organization on your Form 500. Then, “Make it Count” by subtracting the amount from your net payment or refund. The Georgia Department of Revenue will automatically transfer your designated contribution to the group or groups you select. Last, submit this year’s tax return showing your checkoff contributions with next year’s taxes in order to claim your deduction.
