At GeorgiaGov, we work hard to help you find the right information about state government quickly, and it’s always good to be recognized for your work.

GeorgiaGov, the official website for the state of Georgia, has won the 2012 Innovation Award from the Center for Digital Government. It was the result of a complete content and design revamp of the site over a six-month period.

The GeorgiaGov Interactive team (@GeorgiaGovTeam), which manages the design and content for the website, led the effort not only to change the content management system that powers Georgia.gov and 50 other websites but also to recreate Georgia.gov’s content based on usage data.

We started the redesign process with our prime focus on user behavior and experience. We had collected several years of data on how users interact with the website. This data is anonymous, but it gave us a unique insight into the content usage, device usage and many other key aspects critical to a successful redesign.

The new design has several new features:

  • We have enhanced our search functionality and made it central to how a user would potentially interact with the website.
  • A new item called Popular Topics features basic, easy-to-understand information about the 50 most requested topics on GeorgiaGov.
  • Each stage agency has its own information page that outlines what it does, what online services and forms are available, and how to get more information.
  • The site is just as easily accessible on mobile phones as it is on the desktop. GeorgiaGov uses responsive design, which, based on what type of device you're using, resizes the site to make it more readable on different screen sizes. Mobile usage on GeorgiaGov increased 900% from 2011 to 2012. It will soon be the main way Georgians access state government online.

Making GeorgiaGov user friendly is only the beginning. We'd like to know how your experience with us has been enhanced.  If you haven’t done so, please follow us at http://www.facebook.com/georgiagov and http://twitter.com/georgiagov to join the discussion. We are doing our best to respond to fellow Georgians looking for state government information and services.
