State Offices Closed Monday for Memorial Day

May 23, 2014

Each year on the last Monday of May, Americans across the country observe Memorial Day. Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday in 1971 to remember those lost in all American wars and conflicts.

Memorial Day is also typically seen as the start of summer (while Labor Day typically indicates the end of summer). So even though it's a day filled with barbecue, watermelon and pool time, remember those who gave their lives for our freedom.

State offices will be closed on Monday, May 26. See a full list of 2014 Georgia holidays.
