Get Out to State Parks
As spring and summer settle in, the nearly 50 state parks flourish. Families gather to cave, hike, fish and geocache, while reunion parties make camp or rent lakeside cottages.
State Parks Closed to Public for Deer Quota Hunts
Each fall, to prevent deer overpopulation, hunters spend select days culling herds, travelling from one state park to another. Starting tomorrow, Hard Labor Creek State Park will temporarily close to the public during its quota hunt. See the full schedule of park closures.
Visit State Parks & Historic Sites for Free This Weekend
This Saturday, Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites invites all Georgians to get out and experience state parks. Friends will be providing free parking and free admission at participating parks all over the state for Your State Parks Day.
Share Your Stories About State Parks and Historic Sites
Whether you're an avid kayaker or Civil War buff, you likely have stories to share about your experiences in state parks. Aiming to collect many of these stories, the Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites invites you to enter its annual video contest.
Outdoors Guide Goes Smart
If you're an avid outdoor enthusiast, you can enjoy even easier access to state parks with the Georgia Outdoors Guide, a free smartphone application available in the iTunes App Store and for the Android market.
Earning Junior Ranger and Gopher Badges

Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend at Warm Springs
For two decades, Franklin Delano Roosevelt called Warm Springs home. In 1921, he contracted a paralytic illness which required him to use iron braces and a wheelchair.
Getting a Library Loan ParkPass
As summer approaches, your family may want to get outdoors and visit a local state park. If you don’t already hold a ParkPass or Historic Site Pass, you can head to your local library to check both passes out, just like you would check out books.
