The state's second oldest and second largest city, Augusta, the county seat for Richmond County, pays tribute to Princess Augusta, wife of the Prince of Wales. Once a center of trading and later a seat of state government, Augusta is now home to the Masters Golf Tournament, the National Science Center's Fort Discovery, and U.S. President Woodrow Wilson's boyhood home.

Among the city's other attractions are Fort Gordon Military Reservation, Riverwalk Augusta, and the Morris Museum of Art, which holds the country's largest collection of Southern Art.
