Bulloch County, created in 1796 from treaty lands acquired from the Creek Indians, included territory later to become part of Emanuel, Jenkins and Toombs counties. The county is named for Georgia's first provisional governor, Archibald Bulloch, who is an ancestor of President Theodore Roosevelt.
