Carrollton, the county seat for Carroll County, incorporated on December 22, 1829. Nicknamed "The Friendly City," Carrollton is named after Charles Carroll's old colonial home in Chesapeake Bay, VA.
The city hosts the Carrollton Mayfest, an annual festival that includes arts and crafts, live entertainment and food. Other city events include the Cherry Chase, Taste of Carrollton, All-American Triathlon, Cherokee Rose Story telling Festival and the Christmas Tree Lighting & Parade.
Carrollton is home to State University of West Georgia, a member of the University System of Georgia, and Carroll Technical Institute.
