Established on March 19, 1869, Cochran, the Bleckley County seat, pays tribute to Arthur E. Cochran, president of the Macon and Brunswick Railroad. Cochran in large part influenced the development of the county.

Middle Georgia College, a member of the University System of Georgia, introduces students to Cochran. This institute has been recognized as the oldest two-year college in the United States.
