Dalton, established in 1847, is the county seat of Whitfield County. Because the city produces a large percentage of the world's carpet, it has earned the nickname the "Carpet Capital of the World."
Dalton is the gateway to the 150 mile Chieftain's Trail which traces the path of the Cherokee Indian sites located in northwest Georgia.
Daltons is also home to a number of historic sites and monuments listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The list includes the Blunt House, the Confederate Cemetery and Monument, and the Dalton Depot.
