Glascock County, split from part of Warren County in 1857, honors General Thomas Glascock who earned his rank in the War of 1812 and in the Seminole War. He later served as speaker of the Georgia House and represented the state in Congress. The county seat remembers Judge William Gibson, the benefactor who donated $500 toward construction of the city's first courthouse.
