Jefferson, the county seat of Jackson County, remembers President Thomas Jefferson.

On March 30, 1842, Dr. Crawford W. Long performed the first surgery to use ether as an anesthetic. Today, the Crawford W. Long Medical Museum commemorates that monumental achievement in medical history. In addition, Crawford Long Days in November is a festival to celebrate his memory.
