Incorporated on December 12, 1804, Milledgeville, the Baldwin County seat and once the state capital, honors Governor John Milledge, who donated land to the University of Georgia.

The original Governor's Mansion is one of Milledgeville's most notable local attractions. Also of interest is the Baldwin County courthouse, a building listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
