Newnan, the Coweta County seat, incorporated on December 26, 1823. The city recognizes General Daniel Newnan, who fought in both the Indian Wars and the War of 1812. Later, Newnan served in the Georgia General Assembly.
Two popular historic sites in Newnan include the Catalpa Plantation and the Oak Grove Plantation and Gardens, both built in 1835.
Newnan hosts a number of events and festivals throughout the year including the Spring Tour of Homes, the Magnolia Blossom Festival and the Annual Festival Days during Labor Day weekend.
