Perry, the Houston County seat, incorporated on November 25, 1824. The city remembers Oliver Hazard Perry, a commander who, after his fleet defeated the British at Lake Erie, confidently joyed, "We have met the enemy, and they are ours."

Perry is home to a Dogwood Festival, the Georgia National Fair, and the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter.
