Reidsville, the Tattnall County seat, incorporated in 1838. The city remembers Robert E. Reid, a Superior Court Judge.

The Georgia State Penitentiary, the state's central holding facility, is located just south of Reidsville. Constructed in 1936, this is Georgia's oldest state prison. The prison is a large contributor to the city's economy. The facility also houses a full-farming operation including diary, swine, agriculture, and cannery.

Gordonia-Alatamaha State Park, originally named Reidsville State Park, is located in Reidsville. The park offers picnicking, swimming, fishing, boating, camping, a nine-hole golf course and tennis.
