Royston is a small but active, agrarian city. Its fertile soil allows for successful cattle grazing and farming. The city remembers storeowner Mr. W. Asbury Royston who settled in the area in the early 1800s.
The town also honors Baseball Hall of Fame player Tyrus Raymond Cobb. Cobb grew up in Royston and donated $100,000 to help build the town's hospital. Other notable people from Royston include writer Terry Kay, professional football player Dee Dowis and Congressman Clete Donald Johnson, Jr.
