St. Marys is a history rich city on the coast of Georgia, lying just 35 minutes away from Jacksonville. Once a trade and paper production hub, St. Marys dates back to 1787.
In the 1970s, the focus of its economy shifted towards tourism. Today, its leaders are proud to advertise it as an "escape to yesteryear," its Victorian-era buildings complemented by its residents' fondness for their history.
Each year residents hold Fourth of July and Christmas parades. They also celebrate Mardi Gras, and, to celebrate the local cuisine, run the The Rock Shrimp Festival and the Sand Gnat BBQ Challenge.
