Tattnall County is named for Josiah Tattnall, the governor who signed the 1801 legislative act that established the region. Montgomery and Washington counties gave up part of their territories to create Tattnall. Reidsville, the county seat, remembers Robert E. Reid, a superior court judge and territorial governor of Florida.
