Nicknamed "Little Atlanta," Tignall incorporated into Wilkies County in 1907, setting its limits one mile around its center.
Tignall is the birthplace of the late American physicist and mathematician James E. Boyd. Boyd also served as the acting director of the Georgia Institute of Technoloy for one year, director of the Georgia Tech Research Institute for four years and president of West Georgia College for 10 years.
