FAQs:
I am a volunteer firefighter in a certified department. Do I need to be state certified?
While Georgia law does not require a volunteer firefighter to be state certified, the local fire chief or authority may require this certification.
Am I eligible to become a state certified firefighter?
To be state certified as a firefighter in Georgia, you must be at least 18 years old, be in good physical condition as determined by a medical examination, and be employed or assigned as a full-time, part-time, or volunteer firefighter at a certified fire department. Additionally, you need to hold either a High School Diploma or G.E.D, show good moral character and successfully complete the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council's approved physical agility test.
