Carpooling Incentives for Georgians
Driving to work by yourself every day can get pretty lonely...and expensive. Did you know that the average annual cost of driving to work by yourself is around $2,000? Ouch!
Luckily for you, there’s an alternative to dishing out 2 grand a year on driving expenses: carpooling! People have been sharing rides for years, but there are many Georgians who aren’t aware of the monetary incentives they can cash in on for having a carpool buddy.
Let’s take a look at the rewards you can get for carpooling and ridesharing:
$5 A Day
Drivers who currently ride alone to and from their workplace are eligible to earn $5 per day if they switch to a clean commute option such as carpooling, riding public transit or bicycling. If you live in the participating counties, you can earn up to $150 this way over a 90-day period. Sign up for this program by creating a profile with Georgia Commute Options. If you’ll be driving, you can find a carpool partner using their database. [At the time this post was published, prize amounts were $3 per day for up to $100.]
Yes, you read that right! Carpoolers can earn up to $100 in Peach Pass toll credits for riding in the I-85 express lanes. To participate, you have to be enrolled in the aforementioned $5 A Day program, have an active Peach Pass toll account, live in the eligible metro Atlanta area counties, start a new carpool with 2 or more people and log your commutes that occur in the I-85 express lanes. The deadline for entering your Peach pass numbers into the $5 A Day profile is May 31, 2015, and the program runs through September 2015.
Georgia commuters who have at least 3 riders in their carpool and live in the participating metro Atlanta counties can early a $40 gas gift card for 12 months within the space of a 3 month period. If you have 4 or more people in your carpool, the gas card value goes up to $60!
$25 Gift Cards
If you’re already carpooling or clean commuting in the eligible counties, you can register to win a $25 gift card every time log you log a commute! Every entry you log into your profile is a chance to win, and 1 in 10 commuters win every month!
