December 31, 2012

In crafting its tax reform bill last legislative session, the Georgia General Assembly aimed to help agricultural producers by providing farms additional sales and use tax exemptions. Launching tomorrow, the Georgia Agricultural Tax Exemption (GATE) program will help farmers apply for all tax exemptions, including the new ones on equipment purchase and energy use.

To apply for GATE, you can submit an application online, call 855-FARM-TAX or mail in a paper application. If you'd prefer, you can also pick up a paper application at your local Farm Bureau office. You'll pay $20 to submit the application online and $25 if you phone the call center or submit a paper application.

If you have additional questions about the new program, read the GATE brochure and Frequently Asked Questions, email or visit the the program's site.
