State Charter Schools Commission Accepts Petitions

Last week, the State Charter Schools Commission released its petition application for charter school start-ups. The application serves those schools planning to open in fall 2014 or later.

Petitioners will need to submit both hard and electronic copies of their applications by Friday, June 14. After reviewing applications, the commission will call petitioners for interviews in early September.

Home study programs, religiously affiliated schools and existing private schools cannot petition to become charter schools.

If you'd like to open a new charter, start your petition application, read frequently asked questions and review charter school funding formulas.
