In a culture now guided by GPS, a map may seem at best quaint and at worst cumbersome. Maps, though, whether they chart congressional districts or safe bicycle routes, still offer a reliable means of understanding how your environment affects you.

If you're a map enthusiast, following are a handful of collections you'll enjoy. You can also find detailed local maps on many cities' and counties' websites.
