Many Georgians voted early from Oct. 13 to Oct. 31. Today, the rest of us head to the polls. This election holds great importance in determining the leaders of the state of Georgia. Everyone always pays attention to federal elections. However, state/local elections hold just as much — if not more — importance. The decisions made by our state and local leaders can directly affect us right at home--not far away in Washington D.C.

Don't let confusion or uncertainty deter you from voting. Here are a few questions we regularly get in regards to voting in Georgia:

Common Election Questions

  • How do I know if I'm registered to vote or not? If you registered to vote before Oct. 6, 2014, you will have the opportunity to vote. You should have received a letter in the mail confirming your registration. To make sure that you're registered, login to My Voter Page.
  • Where do I vote? Check-in with Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp on My Voter Page or look at your county or city's website.
  • What documentation do I need to vote? All you need is some form of ID (your GA Driver's License or passport works).
  • Who are the candidates? On My Voter Page, you can also see a sample ballot listing all the people running in your area. Every ballot will have the same candidates for certain state elections, but each district will have different elections for more local issues.
  • How do I learn more about each candidate? How do I know who to vote for? Start your research by looking at your sample ballot on My Voter Page so you know who to research. Then take a look at the debates held by Georgia Public Broadcasting and the Atlanta Press Club. You can watch these on your computer--have them playing in the background while you're at work or getting ready in the morning. Lastly, stay connected with each candidate on social media to find current updates.
