Happy Georgia.gov Day!

March 7, 2016
Today is Georgia.gov Day at the Capitol!

Today we celebrate the hard work, diligence and passion of all those who work to make Georgia.gov as best as it can be. You don’t see the people behind the website, but the creators and maintainers work immensely hard each day to ensure you have the most useful and easy-to-use information for Georgia state services. Available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and visited by 5 million people each year, running Georgia.gov is no easy feat.

As a team of 9, the GeorgiaGov Interactive Team builds and maintains websites for 76 state agencies and the state of Georgia’s official website, Georgia.gov. GeorgiaGov Interactive focuses solely on the technology for these websites – keeping them up and running and creating new enhancements for agencies, so each agency can remain in charge of updating their own content. However, the Georgia.gov website requires the team to do the technology AND the content. That means 9 people work to keep the cogs turning while also having up-to-date, useful information on over 1,500 pages on a single website.

In addition to having usable content, GeorgiaGov Interactive also made Georgia.gov a responsive website in 2012. This means you can easily look at Georgia.gov on any device – desktop, tablet or phone. Georgia.gov was one of the first state websites in the nation to have such an ability. Now, 4 years later, most all websites follow this trend.

This past year, GeorgiaGov Interactive improved the code for Georgia.gov and the 76 websites using its software to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 (Level AA). Following these accessibility requirements ensures that the sites remain as accessible as possible for people with disabilities. Again, GeorgiaGov Interactive became one of the first and only teams implementing such an initiative in the country.

An invaluable resource for navigating the complicated twists and turns of our bureaucratic system, Georgia.gov can help you learn how to pay your child support, apply for food stamps, start a business and everything in between. We’re grateful for all the work done by the entire GeorgiaGov Interactive Team and look forward to other ways we can contribute to making Georgia government services more available for all.
