Six State Parks to Briefly Close for Deer Quota Hunts

November 2, 2017

Throughout the year, the Department of Natural Resources schedules quota hunts on various species. By managing population levels this way, the Department ensures the health of our state's wildlife.

Most quota hunts are conducted within wildlife management areas, but each fall a few state parks are selected as sites for deer quota hunts. This year 6 parks will host hunts, with each closing to the public for 2-3 days.

The following state parks will close on the indicated dates:

Hard Labor Creek State Park
November 6-8

Panola Mountain State Park
November 13-15

Red Top Mountain State Park
November 14-15

Tugaloo State Park
December 1-2

Chattahoochee Bend State Park
December 5-6

Richard B. Russell State Park
December 5-6

Due to the popularity of these hunts, hunters must enter a lottery for a chance to participate. All hunting spaces are filled for this year.
