Get Real ID-Compliant

Federal law requires states to issue driver’s licenses and state identification cards that meet national security standards, known as Real ID.

The deadline for having a Real ID was pushed back during the pandemic. After May 7, 2025, federal agencies like the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will require driver’s licenses and state identification cards to be Real ID-compliant.

  • Travelers may still use a passport or TSA-approved ID for travel instead of a driver’s license. Real ID may be required to enter federal facilities. Contact the DHS or TSA or visit their websites if you have more questions about where Real ID will be needed.
