Apply for a State ID Card
A State Identification Card is a valid form of photo ID. Any Georgian old enough to sign their name or make a mark indicating their legal signature can apply.
In Georgia, ID cards are issued by the Department of Driver Services (DDS). In addition to the State ID Card, DDS also offers the following types of ID cards, with varying fees and documentation requirements:

Get Prepared
- Be prepared to have your photo taken by the Department of Driver Services (DDS).

Gather What You'll Need
- $32 fee, paid for in cash or by credit card (Check fees and terms for more information.)
- Documentation showing your identity, residential address, Social Security number, U.S. citizenship or proof of lawful status in the United States and if relevant, any name change or gender change documentation. All documentation must be in English. Photocopies will not be accepted. (Refer to Real ID Requirements for more information.)
- Applicants with a US driver's license, permit, or ID card from another state must surrender the out-of-state driver's license, permit, or ID card to apply.
- Applicants with a valid driver's license from another country may apply and do not need to surrender their out-of-country driver’s license.
- Applicants under the age of 18 must bring a responsible adult with them to sign the application form and show documentation of your relationship.

Apply
- Fill out the application form. (This information will remain on file for 30 days. After that, you will need to submit your information again.)
- If you submit the required information, you will have your photo taken and receive your State ID Card.

- You must renew your Georgia State ID Card every 8 years.

Residents with a valid Georgia license may be eligible to apply for an ID card online or through the DDS 2 Go Mobile App. However, if you are surrendering your driver's license, you must apply for an ID card in person.
